The Cambridge Hotel named Best Live Music Venue in NSW

It has never been more important that we preserve and protect our local live music venues, especially when Newcastle is home to The Cambridge Hotel, recently named back-to-back winner of Best Live Music Venue in the state at this year's Australian Hotels Association NSW Awards for Excellence.

At a recent gala night held at The Star in Sydney, Australian rock icon Ian Moss presented the Cambridge team with the prestigious award, along with some strong words of encouragement for the industry as a whole.

"We didn’t expect to win, but we’re all pretty competitive so were hopeful," hotel spokesperson Brodie Richardson said.

"When we walked in and saw that our table was located up the back we thought our chances were gone, so it was a great moment when Mossy called up our venue."

A recent census created by the Newcastle Live Music Taskforce shows the Cambridge hosted 41 individual live music performances in the month of June alone, meaning the venue provides an estimated 500 shows per year.

"We’ve always aimed to be accommodating to both punters and artists in our venue, and we feel as though we have achieved this," Brodie said

"Over the years we’ve built strong relationships with artists, agents and promoters from around the country to help bring some of the best acts both locally and internationally to our venue.

"We’re often commended on our events and how we operate as a venue right through from our office staff to our on-ground staff. We’re also constantly trying to improve the venue as a physical product and experience, in fact, we’re in the middle of renovations as we speak. We believe all of these factors combined have led us to where we are currently at."

Live performances at the venue this year have included stellar acts such as the Thundamentals, who sold out back-to-back shows in April, Jack River, The Preachers, and Boo Seeker to name a few.

"We've always attempted to bring extraordinary shows to Newcastle and to have a forward-thinking mindset in regard to our events," Brodie said.

"We’d like to say a big thank you to every fan, every punter, every agent, every act, every staff member and everybody who has enjoyed live music in our venue. We couldn’t have done it without you."
