Former Australian Test Opening Batsman Rick McCosker recently joined Bay Hotel Motel to help raise $10,000 for local teen Koby Smith, who is battling a brain infection.
The Koby Smith Invitational Cricket Match was held on Sunday, 20 February sponsored by the Bay Hotel Motel and included members of the Bay Hotel Motel and the Hunter Taverners cricket clubs.
"This event was held to raise much-needed funds to support the Smith family and Koby who is likely to be hospital for at least five more weeks," hotel operator Pete Cullen said.
"The young fellow is a keen tennis player and his family is involved in local sport, including cricket. This was just one way for us to support members of our local community like Koby and his family."
Game fees in conjunction with an auction and raffles at the lunch generated the much-needed funds.
Both the Bay Hotel Motel and the Taverners Branch also provided match balls, memorabilia for the raffle, other raffle prizes, and financial assistance.
