Farmer's Hotel Vacy ready to slow race for charity at this weekend's Vacy Village Carnival

Take the opportunity to spend this Sunday at one of the Hunter's best country pubs - Farmer's Hotel, Vacy

In addition to a host of fun activities happening in the Upper Hunter this weekend including the Denman Markets and Sandy Hollow Motorfest, on the other side of town at Vacy, the Farmer's Hotel will be holding its annual Landrover Charity Slow Race as part of the Vacy Village Country Carnival.

To be held on Sunday, 8 September, the Vacy Village Country Carnival gives you the chance to

immerse yourself in the magical charm of the local village and Farmer's Hotel country pub.

The annual carnival includes a host of activities including the famous Jack Russell races, Dachshund competition and camel rides. There will be market stalls with many local artisans and producers trading their wares including wine, olives, home baked treats from the Red Cross, Donkey Welfare with Heart offering vegetarian and gluten free food, and Greg's famous camp oven lamb sandwich.

"You are not allowed to touch the clutch or break without disqualification once you start so it's really about getting your Land Rover to go as low and slow as possible.."

Local hotelier Maurice Harden from the Farmer''s Hotel will also be raising money for local charities by holding the pub's annual Landrover Charity Slow Race.

"The race is about 100m in marked lanes with the starter sounding a large air horn and the object is to make it to the end of the race in the slowest possible time without stopping the vehicle," Maurice said.

"You are not allowed to touch the clutch or break without disqualification once you start, so it's really about getting your Land Rover to go as low and slow as possible. The last car over the line wins and goes into competition against winners in other heats.

"It costs five dollars per vehicle entry and all money is headed straight to the Vacy Village Country Carnival committee which distributes funds to local community organisations and projects."

As part of the day, the Farmers Hotel will also be holding a 'Blues Barbecue' live music showcase, including seven blues acts playing at the pub starting from 12pm.

Entry to the Vacy Village Carnival and Farmers Hotel is free and the Landrover Charity Slow Race starts at 11am.
