The Australian Hotels Association NSW - in partnership with Tourism Accommodation Australia NSW - has made an immediate donation of $250,000 to support bushfire victims.
AHA NSW CEO John Whelan said the quarter of a million dollar donation was made to the Vinnies Bushfire Appeal on behalf of members.
“This donation is an initial step to help provide some immediate relief to victims of the terrible bushfires raging across NSW,” Mr Whelan said.
“Pubs in regional areas are the hearts of their communities - especially in tough times like these. Hotels in fire devastated areas are already providing respite and relief - and have been since the fires started.”
“Many other hotels have also made significant contributions.”
Mr Whelan said AHA NSW would provide additional support measures in bushfire and drought-affected communities in coming months once the full scale of the devastation is known.
“I encourage all in the hotel industry to support this worthwhile initiative, and note the welcome contribution of hospitality groups which have already donated,” he said.
TAA NSW CEO Michael Johnson said accommodation hotels were happy to support the $250,000 donation.
“The tourism industry is of vital importance to regional NSW and we hope this donation will help regional areas get back on their feet that little bit sooner,” he said.
